Watch Golf Abroad — the Full Season, Whoever’s Showing It

Golf runs almost all year — the majors, the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour, the Ryder and Solheim Cups, and the LIV circuit besides — but in the UK it doesn’t all sit on one channel. Sky Sports carries the lion’s share, TNT Sports has LIV, and the BBC keeps a slice of The Open. What they share is that none of it travels.

Land abroad and every one of those services checks where you are and shuts the coverage down. Here’s the full map of who shows what — and the single change that puts all of it back.

Where Golf Lives on UK TV

Most of the golf a British viewer follows is on Sky Sports. It holds all four men’s majors and all five women’s majors, the full PGA Tour and DP World Tour seasons, and the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup — effectively the whole calendar bar one exception.

That exception is LIV Golf, whose fourteen events moved to TNT Sports for 2026. And the one part of the game still free to watch is the BBC’s nightly highlights of The Open — the live rounds are Sky’s, but the recap runs on BBC Two. Follow golf closely and you may hold more than one of these; the point is that every one is a UK broadcast.

Why None of It Travels

Sky Go, NOW, the HBO Max app that carries TNT, BBC iPlayer — each one is licensed for the UK, so each one reads the IP address your connection comes from. Open any of them on a Spanish, French or Portuguese address and the golf simply won’t start.

Paying for the subscription changes nothing: the block is on the location of your line, not the state of your account. A British member paying for both Sky and TNT is turned away abroad exactly like anyone else.

Why a VPN App Falls Short

The obvious workaround is a VPN app, and on UK sport it mostly lets you down. These apps hand you a shared address from a data centre, and the broadcasters keep those ranges on a blocklist — so a server that works this morning is dead by the afternoon.

And you would be fighting it on every service in turn: the one that loads Sky today isn’t the one that loads TNT tomorrow. It’s a lot of bother to watch a putt drop.

What Works: a UK Residential IP

A pre-configured SmartHub router gives your connection a genuine UK residential IP — an address off an ordinary British broadband line, not a data-centre one. To Sky, TNT and the BBC alike it reads as a normal UK viewer, so every golf service you pay for plays as it does at home.

Because it works on the connection, one router covers the lot at once — Sky Go and NOW, the HBO Max app, BBC iPlayer — across every screen in the place, with nothing to install on any of them. Whichever channel has the golf that week, it opens.

Sky, TNT and the BBC on One Freely Box

Because the golf is scattered across three services, the simplest kit is a single box that runs all of them — and the Freely players we supply do. Both the Netgem PLEIO and the Manhattan Aero carry the HBO Max app that holds TNT and LIV, plus BBC iPlayer for the Open highlights; the Netgem PLEIO also runs NOW, which is how you reach Sky Sports golf.

That makes the PLEIO the one box for all three at once — the majors and the tours through NOW, LIV through HBO Max, and the Open recap on iPlayer — and the router behind it puts the whole box on a UK address. It can be added to your router order.

Get Set Up for the Season

Everything arrives set up and ready. Get it online wherever you’re based, plug in the TV or a streaming box, and sign in to Sky, TNT or the BBC the way you always have.

We ship worldwide — generally UPS Express abroad, which clears customs quickly, and DPD in the UK, usually the next day once it leaves us (bar a few far corners like the north of Scotland). Golf barely pauses — the DP World Tour runs into the winter and the majors come round again in spring — so there’s no bad week to be ready before the next tee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I watch golf abroad?

Yes. UK golf is spread across Sky Sports, TNT Sports and the BBC, and like all UK broadcasts it’s geo-blocked outside the UK. A router with a UK residential IP makes every one of those services play abroad just as they do at home.

Which channels show golf in the UK?

Sky Sports carries the majors, the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour and the Ryder and Solheim Cups; LIV Golf is on TNT Sports; and the BBC shows free-to-air highlights of The Open. All are UK-only and all are blocked abroad.

Will a VPN app work for the golf?

Usually not for long. Sky, TNT and the BBC all recognise the shared data-centre addresses VPN apps rely on and shut them out, so a server that works today may be blocked by the weekend. An address from a genuine home line stays off those lists, which is what carries you through a whole season.

Do I still need a Sky, NOW or TNT subscription?

Yes — you supply the subscriptions, we supply the UK address. The router changes where your connection appears to be, nothing about your account, so your own Sky, NOW, TNT or BBC sign-ins carry over abroad untouched.

Final Thoughts

Golf is one of the most spread-out sports on UK television — three broadcasters, a dozen tours, and a major most months of the year. The one thing they share is a border check, and it’s the same border check for all of them.

Settle that once and the whole game comes with you. A UK residential IP puts Sky, TNT and the BBC back on every screen in the house, from the first major of the spring to the last putt of the season.
